Pros baseball, plenty of notable actors, storyline
Cons somewhat predictable
Recommended it? Yes

Major League is a movie that came out in 1989 about the Cleveland Indians. But, it is about a lot more than just those lovable Indians. At the time the movie was made, the Indians were the laughing-stock of Major League baseball. Cleveland was considered to be the end of the line for major leaguers... Read full review »

Pros Funny lines and plenty of quality actors
Cons Quite predictable with lots of adult language

I've always had difficulty enjoying sports films, specifically baseball movies. Things have changed in the last several years because authenticity has become more important in sports films, which I'm pleased about. However, there was a time when baseball movies didn't seem to respect the game. I... Read full review »

Predictable, but a fine bit of escapism for baseball fans

Pros Lots of stars; solid, entertaining story
Cons Predictable as all get-out

Major League is one of many movies that have found an audience in spite of scores of critics who panned the thing. Sure, the criticisms that this film is predictable and mawkish are true. However, the time-worn story is pulled off very well by a fantastic cast, and that makes this one of great... Read full review »

Well, after several years of playing it finally happened! I broke my Major League video and had to have it replaced. Naturally I jumped right out here to Half.com's link on Epinions and ordered another copy pronto because I don't know if I could go without watching this hysterical movie for more... Pros Really funny. Honest.
Cons Blatantly derivative

When it comes to movies, I'm pretty hardcore in my opinions about what is "good" and what is "bad". I'm even pretty strong in my feelings about movies that are mediocre. This probably comes from spending my formative years in my dad's book & video store, and watching more movies before the age of... Read full review »

A trend began somewhere in the 1980’s where fictional movies about baseball began using real teams as their setting, rather then also creating a fictional team. This had good and bad points. It gave more credibility to many films about the Major Leagues, such as Bull Durham. On the other hand, it... Read full review »

Pros Great cast, hilarious scenarios and one-liners, fun and simple story
Cons Plotwise it does get predictable

1989 was the year of two of the biggest baseball movies to hit the cinema. One was Kevin Costner's Field of Dreams, a symbolic, sentimental baseball movie. Then there was that other movie, Major League, a crude goofball comedy featuring a team of players that...erm...weren't as timeless as the ones... Read full review »

I was a fan of the Atlanta Braves in the 1980's. During this time, they were an absolutely terrible team. They constantly finished last and lost about 100 games a year. So imagine the great feeling I had when the Braves turned things around in 1991 and won a thrilling pennant race. Major League... Read full review »

Overview...
Folks, never has a slapstick comedy evolved into such a masterpiece moreso than for Major League. This movie has to be the funniest film I have ever seen in my entire life, and even though I have seen it now roughly fourteen thousand times, I still laugh at many of the original... When the widow of the owner of the Cleveland Indians realizes that she is stuck with a small stadium in a cold climate she decides that a move to a Southern warmer climate is called for. Unfortunately the only way she can unload her stadium is due to low attendance so she needs to plan for a losing and lackluster season. The team of misfits and losers that she has hired though decide that if they really pull through they may not wind up in last place and not be the losers that the owner thinks that they are. This offbeat baseball comedy starring Tom Berenger Charlie Sheen Corbin Bernsen and Rene Russo was a surprise 1989 hit.
