byBryan_Carey Jul 29, 2004

Pros The screenplay; Good, original humor
Cons Some things are exaggerated, but that's what makes it fun
Recommended it? Yes

Teen movies are released on a consistent basis and often do well at the box office even when the motion picture itself isn't all that good. Directors and those who work in the movie industry know that the younger market loves movies and will have no reservations forking over the cash to watch a... Read full review »

Pros Overall, I enjoyed the film.
Cons Deals with issues that may be hard to laugh at for some audiences.
Recommended it? Yes

One of the best things about going to the movies is having an opportunity to relax and enjoy a little mindless humor. Some of my friends and associates probably find it odd that I would be lured into a film like Mean Girls seeing that in my real life work, I help teenagers that are in trouble... Read full review »

Mean Girls: Almost Too Fey to Function

bybeckytcy May 11, 2004

Pros Fey and other SNL-ers, very funny, true-to-life for the most part
Cons horrible ending, a few over-the-top characters and moments

The problem with most Saturday Night Live skits and SNL-based films is that they have one joke that they beat to death, and you find yourself yelling at the screen, "Please, end! This isn't funny anymore!"

With the exception of the brilliant Wayne's World, all of the SNL projects have... Read full review »

Mean Girls (2004)

bylemon_lime May 4, 2004
94 Helpfuls 95 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Tina Fey, Lindsey Lohan, various other former SNL cast members
Cons sappy, predictable ending
Recommended it? Yes

The curious thing about Mean Girls is that it succeeds precisely where most films of its genre fail: namely, right off the bat, and often. The problem with the typical film dealing with high schoolers is, of course, that it doesn't understand high school or its students that much at all. Mean Girls... Read full review »

Cady Heron didn't know what to expect when she went to school. Cady (Lindsay Lohan) had spent a great deal of her young life in Africa, where her parents (Ana Gasteyer and Neil Flynn) had taught her in their home. They returned to America, in part, to help her develop social skills with her peers... Read full review »

I had wanted to see Mean Girls for some time, even though many of my friends thought it would be just a stupid teen flick. So finally I went to see it yesterday by myself and really enjoyed it. I decided that my friends were wrong, and Mean Girls was a biting satire about the high school years... Read full review »

When people think of young American pop actress' it is easy to relate them to drugs, alcohol, and rehab. It is difficult to name pop stars that have not been affected by fame and money as is the case of Lindsay Lohan who has publicly, in soap opera fashion, fallen victim to drug and alcohol... I didn't see this movie when it first came out and instead said I'd watch it when it came out on DVD. With my hectic schedule I didn't get around to seeing it until I needed to watch it for a class. Yes I had to watch it for a Human Development class. Interesting concept, I thought, to incorporate... Read full review »

Mean Girls Widescreen Special Collector's Edition DVD

In this survival-of-the-fi ttest teen comedy high school is a dangerous jungle seething with teenagers who prey on each other like wild animals. The nonstop jokes are hilariously rewarding as they exaggerate adolescent vanity and satirize political correctness issues like race class and homosexuality. Here the Plastics are the most popular girls in school. They wrote the rule book on Girl World like always wearing pink on Tuesdays. And they're mean. So when pretty new girl Cady Lindsay Lohan arrives in school the first thing they do is make fun of her. Then they try to win her over. Cady is torn between social cliques. She befriends the punky rebels Janis Lizzy Caplan and Damian Daniel Franzese. But the guy Cady wants to date is friends with the Plastics--Regina Rachel McAdams Gretchen Lacey Chabert and Karen Amanda Seyfriend--so she has to be resourceful. Problem is the two groups hate each other. Just trying to fit in Cady jumps through hoops for the Plastics and becomes a mean girl in the process. Though her transformation is radical when the final act of meanness is done she learns a few valuable lessons. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE writer Tina Fey contributes the script and also stars as a teacher quietly smirking at her own jokes throughout the antics. Directed by FREAKY FRIDAY's Mark Waters MEAN GIRLS doesn't miss a beat following the faithful formula of teen fare such as SIXTEEN CANDLES and HEATHERS. The soundtrack features songs by Blondie Missy Elliot Pink The Donnas and Janis Ian.
