Nutty Professor

Nutty Professor

Nerd. Milquetoast. Klutz. These are just three of the many undesirable words that can be used to describe Professor Julius Kelp. But all that changes when the chemistry expert invents a potion that transforms him into a suave, sexy chick magnet, whom Julius aptly names Buddy Love. Unfortunately, there's one side effect: Buddy can't control when he'll change back into Julius, an event that always happens at inopportune times. How will Julius/Buddy resolve his Jekyll-and-Hyde dilemma? This film cemented Jerry Lewis's reputation as a comic genius; he co-wrote and co-produced the film while also turning in a fabulous performance. This film served as the basis for Eddie Murphy's later Nutty Professor films.

A kid’s movie for grownups Lewis functioned as writer/director and actor in one of his best productions. Give me an alaskan polar bear heater! Ooooh, that's not bad!

Well, okay, Jerry Lewis. Okay, okay, Jerry Lewis. Okay, the glasses and the buck teeth and the schtick. But you look at the arc of Jerry's career after Dean, and you get six or seven brilliant little comedies, and this is easily... Read full review »

Pros Jerry Lewis in top form, nostalgia value, interesting comparision to remakes
Cons Somewhat outdated gags and milieu

What I noted most about this minor classic was that it's less
based around slapstick and more character-centered than other
Jerry Lewis vehicles that come to mind. Grotesque false teeth and
Moe Howard hair enables Lewis to play the clumsy nerd scientist
Julius Kelp, who teaches on a... Read full review »
