Pros Good fit & comfortable, Bass Quality, Long!
Cons Too long!, impractical aspects of design, sound isn't perfect
Recommended it? Yes

At the time of buying the Sony MDR-EX71SL's, I had been meaning to get a pair of in-ear earphones for what seemed like decades. My usual pair was simply incapable of sufficiently concentrating & funnelling sound – the base was leaking, and the treble was fighting an only-just-winning battle against... Read full review »

Pros Sound. Comfort. Isolation.
Cons Wiring.

We are here today to remember the dearly departed. These Sony MDR-EX71s lived far too short a life. Today we remember these Fontopias and their glorious life, which lasted just about a week.

But what a wonderful week it was. For one week, they matched my iPod perfectly. And not just... Read full review »

Pros Far more comfortable than rigid earbuds, superb sound quality,
Cons You can hear yourself chew, swallow, breathe . . .

Back in May, on my birthday, I received a nice silver iPod. I'd wanted one for sometime - its compactness, ease of use, and capacity were all appealing. However, what really sold me on an mp3 player was its size. It can be tucked easily in a pocket - even in jeans pockets (and I, probably... Read full review »

Pros -Great sound for the price -Nice styling -Good for all types of music
Cons -Asymmetrical cord is very inconvenient -Case is too small

General thoughts...
I must begin by reminding the prospective buyer that there are not really any great sounding headphones in this price range - none at all! But is definitely useful to consider your options if this is indeed your price range.

Some thoughts about "in the ear"... Read full review »

Introduction

When my previous Sony EX70 earphones broke during a transatlantic flight, I immediately went to the nearest Sony shop to purchase a replacement. I found out that the EX70's had been replaced by the EX71's, which I ended up buying.

I AM REVISING THIS REVIEW AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS OF USE.

(UPDATED COMMENTS ARE IN ALL CAPS)

I purchased these headphones at a local electronics store. With the guarantee and the ability to return locally, it seemed like a low-risk buy. IN HINDSIGHT, I SHOULD HAVE PAID EXTRA FOR... Read full review »

I received an ipod for Christmas, and so received a pair of the standard white ipod headphones. I wanted headphones that were a little better, and the local CompUSA store was closing. Ipod accessories were 30 percent off. So, I chose the Sony MDR-EX71 headphones as the best they had.

Pros Great sound quality, great in-ear comfort with silicone rubber earbuds.
Cons The cord, the cord, the cord.

I bought these earbuds to replace the earbuds that came with my iPod. I did alot of research before buying them at Best Buy for $50. I thought this was alot for earbuds, but I didn't want to wait for an order from the internet, so I plunked down my $50 and went home to try them out.

Compact package, mediocre sound, tangled cables.

Pros Cheap, sound isolating, discreet for flying.
Cons Mediocre sound quality (unless you have big ear canals).

In-ear sound isolating earphones seem to be all the rage these days. These are probably the entry-level players in that field, at about $30 street price.

They come with three sizes of rubber gaskets; the smallest is still a little large for my ears. They seem to fit comfortably in my... Read full review »

Great Sound, Difficult to move around with these

Pros Great bass. Rich but delicate sound.
Cons Indiana Jones-length main cord coupled with the extra-short left ear cord.

I purchased these to replace the rather uncomfortable Apple earbuds that came with my iPod.

What I needed:
1. Something that would be have some sound-dampening ability since I use my iPod on the subway and commuter rail. I didn't want to hear the woman next to me yacking on the... Read full review »
