Sony should be ashamed to sell this product.

Pros Good sound quality, very portable
Cons Very uncomfortable, can't wear for long periods of time
Recommended it? No

I need to start with a small preface, I love sound, I'm obsessed with it, and I listen to sound all day and all night on all different speakers and TV's and car systems. Due to my audiophile nature it is very possible there are things that would bother me in a set of speakers that most people... Read full review »

The ideal headphone for DJ's

bypanman3 Feb 17, 2002
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros good audio quality, foldable, aspecially handy for DJ's
Cons Connection cord has more weight than average headphone
Recommended it? Yes

The MDR-V500DJ is a headphone especially designed for DJ's. As a semi-pro DJ I have so far enjoyed my headphone a lot.

PROS:

The most important advantage is the spiral, telephone-alike cable wich solves the problem of the (long) cord getting stuck under your chair, behind a... Read full review »

Depends on your intended use

Pros One-sided cord, The folding design makes them easy to transport, Swiveling earcups sit on...
Cons Heavy, Uncomfortable, Distorts readily, Sounds tinny, Poor fidelity, Not worth $59
Recommended it? No

I had been using a pair of Sony MDR-V200s, but I cracked the plug by moving too far away from my PC without taking off the phones. I'd given the ample V200 straight cord a few accidental yanks in the past, but this one broke the camel's back. I guess the nice 3 meter length of the cord made me too... Read full review »

Pros sound quality, speaker durability, price
Cons not the most comfortable, cushion material won't last forever
Recommended it? Yes

i bought these headphones about a few months ago and i am fairly happy with them. the frequency range has held up and kept me satisfied with the variety of music i listen to, ranging from jazz to classical to hiphop. i listen to music fairly loud and they haven't blown yet. the collapsable frame is... Not worth your money or time.

Pros very durable
Cons Lots of distortion, muddy bass.
Recommended it? No

The only reason I bought these headphones was because my other headphones, the much better V-600's, broke. So I decided to bring my broken headphones back to the store to get a refund. But then I noticed the V-500's on the shelf so I decided to give them a try in exchange for my broken V-600's... Read full review »

DJ standard

bystareyes Dec 7, 1999
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Durable, decent sound quality, easy to replace
Cons Break with rough handling, don't block out all sound
Recommended it? Yes

This is the classic headphone for club DJs although as things get to be big business most major DJs are moving up to nicer, more sleek models. These headphones are pretty good -- the ear pieces are durable and they cover your ears well enough to block out most outside sound, although that's not... Read full review »

Great For The Bedroom DJ

bydjvelocity Feb 10, 2006
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great audio signal arrest, great connectivity, and great audio decibel levels
Cons The cost (a little steep for people unsure of audio terminology to gamble on)
Recommended it? Yes

The Sony MDRV500D Professional Headphones are the ideal setup if you are at all the type, to endeavor into production and/or creation of your own music. I (myself) have been a producer/dj for the last 5 years and I have yet to come across a set of headphones, so accurately tuned to the needs... Read full review »

Not even worth 30 dollars

Pros good durability
Cons Tinny sound lots of distortion
Recommended it? Yes

When I first bought these headphones I thought they were worth it for the price. That was until I bought the V-600's which are of better quality and have considerably less distortion. For one thing these headphones produce tinny sound. Which means the music sounds like it is very far away. And... Read full review »

for their price not bad.....

Pros low-cost, there quite comfy, the screw off jack is really handy.
Cons because of their low-cost they tend not to be able to handle at high volumes.
Recommended it? Yes

A step down from the monstrously popular MDR-VDJ700 phones,
they have all you would expect from a lower model.
In most respects they are near identical to the 700's, sound quality being the obvious drawback, but for conventional listening purposes they do a great job.
They have all... Read full review »

Simply fantastic

Pros sound good. decent bass. amazingly well constructed, last forEVER. ok 9 years so far.
Cons i'm sure they're not the best sound quality you can buy for the money.
Recommended it? Yes

sound quality on the V500 is pretty good, with some decent bass response. why i absolutely love them however, enough to write this review, is the fact that i'm generally just hard on things, and this may be one of the oldest possessions i have that still works (i think i've had'm since 1999). i've...
