Sleepy Bedtime Toys for Toddlers
Make the transition to a regular bedtime easier with comforting lights and sounds. In addition to a consistent routine and time, making a toddler's room as cozy and inviting as possible can ease those bedtime blues.
Develop a consistent pattern of events for the child, so they know exactly what to expect before bed. The consistency will set them at ease and bedtime struggle will eventually subside. Good bedtime routines include:
- Snack time one to two hours before bed
- Bath time one to two hours befoe bed, before or after snack time.
- Limit the amount of TV the child watches in the hours before bedtime.
- Quiet time before bed playing a game with a parent or sibling. Be sure to spend quality time with your child in the busy hours between dinner and bedtime, otherwise their separation anxiety at bedtime may increase.
- A bedtime story, red to the child in bed
Star Light, Star Turtle
The star turtle is one of the best alternatives to a night light ever invented. This small turtle has tiny holes on its shells, which allow light to shine through and onto the walls and ceiling. The light is not random, it depicts a star pattern. A map accompanies the light so you can look for star patterns with your toddler.
The light may be changed to blue, yellow or green, although blue and greeen are the brightest. The light turns off after 20 minutes. A toddler may press a button on the turtle to turn it back on for another 20 minutes.
For best results, place the turtle on a flat surface including a book shelf headboard or a nightstand. Fair warning: older kids in the family may ask you for one, too.
Calming Sea Creatures and Music
The Ocean Wonders Musical Aquarium attaches directly to a crib. Be sure to follow the directions exactly when attaching it and putting in the batteries. If it's not done in the right order it simply won't work. There are varying speeds and different music to help a toddler ease into bedtime.
Lullaby Gloworm
Playskool's Lullaby Gloworm can't be beat. For a snuggly bedtime toy that provides a bit of light to the child who does not love the dark, the little Gloworm solves the problem. This is an affordable toy your child will adore.
Tykelight
It's a nightlight, it's a flashlight, it's your child's new best friend. Set it on the table as a nightlight, or encourage its use as a flashlight. For the potty training child or child who does not like the dark, this is a cute item to add to their room.
Kids can even use it under the covers to look at books before bed. It's also a good toy to use in a real tent, or in the tent you and your child make in the living room with blankets.
Cuddly Light
This cuddly stuffed animal has a glowing belly to keep children happy and cozy in the dark.
Dream Defender
The Night Guardian Defender of Dreamtime Light-Up Plush Toy is cute new toy for naptime or bedtime. It comes in different colors, is soft and has a chest plate that lights up.
