Ivory Joe Hunter's career began in 1945 and in its early stages it was as a wild boogie pianist, but as his career took shape, his approach changed and he developed a very much more popular style featuring ballads and pop songs in his repertoire. In fact, Ivory Joe went beyond his R&B routes and indeed, he was one of the first R&B artists to embrace Country & Western music, featuring it in his act and recording it long before Ray Charles.
